There are three foods that maintain the human life: the food itself; the air that we breathed and the impressions which is among all the most important. This is unkown by the science and humanity.
The air has a vital function as purifier of the blood that circulates in the arteries and veins of our organism. Unfortunately, the highly selfish created interests and the society of consumption manipulates and imposes us customs, vices, ideas, etc. When the human being knows his own psychology and learn how to manage it will become the king of him and of the universe and will understand the motto written at the portico of the Temple of Delphos: "Homo, Gnoscete Ipsum”, which means “Man know yourself and you will know the universe and Gods”.
One of the burdens that more damage has made to the humanity is the horrible vice of cigarette. It does more than 20 years that, daily we heard speak of the damages that the cigarette causes in the human organism: cancer, heart attacks, pulmonary emphysema and although always we try to excuse our vice, does not let us don’t worry about the damage that it causes. Now, with concern it is observed the women also smoke cigarettes and some of them more than the men. In any meeting there is always someone that looks bad or makes some comment, disapproving that mechanical gesture that a smoker makes to ignite a cigarette. In order to eliminate any vice, it must be know the damage that cause and the techniques and methods that allow understand it at a psychological level, for later eliminate it.
What is the bad reality of cigarette-smoking?
.: The cigarette contains more chemicals than the pharmacy of the corner.
Without exaggerating and to be exact, the cigarette contains 4,027 chemicals, of which 200 are well-known poisons and 60 are carcinogen. The Nicotine and Tar are the most noxious substances. The amount of Nicotine in a single cigarette can kill a person, but before smoking the amount necessary to accumulate the lethal dose in the blood, the person will suffer a long and painful disease.
- The cigarette causes similar or greater addiction than other drugs.
Nicotine is the drug in tobacco that causes addiction. The nicotine is a powerful stimulant. It is the one that provides the flavor to the cigarette and forces the person to want every time greater amount. After inhaling the nicotine, the blood flow accumulates the substance in each cell of the organism and as the time pass, the cells are accustomed to the nicotine and requested more to the body. For that reason, the smoker becomes freak-out and nervous; with the cigarette "he calms himself" and the nicotine becomes a "tranquilizer" similar to caffeine. The experience demonstrates that the nicotine is among the drugs that create greater addiction, along with the heroin and caffeine.
- The tar that contains cigarettes is not so bad.
If you smoke a package of cigarette per day, during a year, the tar accumulated in the lungs, represent more than one fourth of the total amount that is spread within the organism. If you want to have an idea of how much it is that amount, exhale a puff of smoke toward a handkerchief. That horrible sticky brown substance, which causes the yellow-brown stain in the handkerchief is tar and imagine what all that tar looks like in your lungs considering that they are more absorbent than a sponge.
Tar destroys the thousand tiny air sacs called alveoli that the lung has to take oxygen from the air. This destruction originates a painful and non-cure disease: Pulmonary Emphysema or Asthma of the Smoker. The person with emphysema slowly asphyxiated.
- The cigarette contains carbon monoxide. This substance is the same gas emitted by the exhaust pipe of a power vehicle. The blood assimilates more easily the carbon monoxide than the oxygen. When someone smokes a cigarette, it is inhaling a poisonous gas that reduces the volume of oxygen that enters the bloodstream and it is necessary for the vital functions. Clearly the organism suffers the consequences.
- The cigarette contains Hydrogen cyanide.
It sounds terrible, but it is the truth. This substance paralyses the cilia, the small hairs that protect and clean the lungs from strange particles and for this reason the poisons enter quickly into the lung; and the organism defends himself by coughing.
The cigarette is frequent cause of cardiac diseases.
Just after one cigarette, the problems begin. A simple puff accelerates the heart rate, from 5 to 20 beats per minute which means that the heart pumps more blood, but the nicotine induces the contraction of the blood vessels, in such a way that the blood cannot flow easily. Having the arteries blocked the person has more propensity to have an infarct.
The risk of undergoing an infarct is 3 times greater in the smokers than in the nonsmokers. This is not rare if we consider that the nicotine and the carbon monoxide force the heart to work hardly.
- Pregnant women should not smoke.
The baby that she is waiting needs all the oxygen that she can give him for his proper development. It is known that smoking is a frequent cause of abortions and premature childbirths, during the pregnancy; in addition, it has also been demonstrated that the children of the smoker mothers have difficulties in the language and learning.

- The cigarette causes damage to your friends and to your beloved relatives. (Secondhand smoke).
This is a fashionable controversy. It is known that the smoke that others inhale, cause them the same noxious effects that if they smoke. The smoker is responsible for the health consequences of the people who are around him.
- There are radioactive particles in the cigarette.
Some recent investigations have demonstrated that the cigarette contains radioactive particles that accumulate in the lung, in the lymphatic nodules and within the whole body; in addition the people who smoke, have 15 to 20 % more risk of cancer than those who never have smoked.
- Throat cancer.
The nicotine produces throat cancer: an alive ulcer that practically does not allow the smoker to eat, neither to drink nor to sleep.
- The “light” cigarettes also cause problems.
It is a myth to think that the noxious effects of cigarettes diminishes if people smoke cigarettes with a lower tar level, these also contain carbon monoxide and other poisons. Generally, when people smoke these “light” cigarettes, they smoke more.
- People who smoke are not elegant any more.
As everybody knows the cigarette ends with physical health and people (even the smokers themselves) are surprised when someone smoke one, two or three cigarettes in a while. In addition the skin is damaged, the hair loses the natural brightness, the fingers and the teeth are stained and the clothes are impregnated with a disagreeable scent of whip. There is nothing else more unpleasant than a place stink of cigarette.
- Smoking indicates a lack of confidence in oneself.
In the modern life, one of the characteristics more desired in one person is to have dominion over oneself and the security to act and to think. Generally, the smoker resorts to this vice to hide his nerves or to disguise his anguish.
The nicotine is an addictive drug and over time the dependency is stronger. People must understand the necessity to eliminate this vice. When someone comprehends and eliminates the vice of cigarette smoking, the body needs time to recover and decontaminate itself. In few months the lungs will recover their vitality and the heart will begin to beat normally. The nervous system will also be recovered.
The Pranayama that is teaching in our centers of conferences is a great exercise that helps the nostrils and lungs to return to their normality.
